I realized I never posted about a project Malcolm Associates Inc completed last July in Winona Lake Indiana.
In the fall of 2008, we were contacted by Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church in Winona Lake, Indiana. They had a building on their property that used to be the Chicago Photography School they were using as their youth building and as a community outreach space. They needed a space that would be utilized as an extension of their ministry from the main building as well as continue to serve the youth and surrounding community. Our only real limitation as designers was budget-church projects are typically dependent on donations from the congregation.
We have had the privilege to work with this wonderful group and through much patience and understanding, in December of 2010, we celebrated the groundbreaking on their new renovation and addition. In July 2011, They celebrated their dedication and have been using the facility to help them better serve their community.

Drywall Changes Everything!
We have drywall now going up in the lake house project! I'm really happy to see how big the spaces look even with drywall. I've said it before and I will say it again, the different progress points of a project always change the feeling dramatically. Sometimes, it scares the client-especially if they've never experienced this before. This house is turning out really nicely and the clients are so excited about their new home. Enjoy!

Lakehouse Update and a Sunny Spring Day
Things are moving right along on the Lake House project. The contractors are finishing up insulation and preparing for drywall on the interior. Exterior wise, they are finishing up some carpentry on the fascia boards and front porch...then we'll have siding to show you!
In the meantime, here's some great shots I got on this springlike day in northern Indiana! Can't wait for the next post!
Enjoy!

Lake House Update!
Things are really moving in Syracuse, IN! Awhile back, a young couple with a new baby asked me to "recreate" their house for them (see here).
Construction started right around Christmas and is really moving along quite well. For this project, we are nearly doubling the square footage of the house. They are going from a 2 bed, 1 bath to a 3 bed, 2 bath home-with an easement to Lake Syracuse, that's not a bad piece of property to own.
The new front facade. They were getting ready to install a huge bay window when I took this picture. Maybe next time....
The new north west facade. We had a lot line limitation (this house has THREE front yards due to a neighborhood plan that shows a road that was never built) and ended up cutting the master bedroom at a 45 degree angle to accommodate this set back. It worked out nicely!
Looking into the kitchen from the new dining room.
Looking onto the new front porch from the living area. Nice new windows!!!
In the master bedroom looking towards the new walk in closet and on suite. To the left in the frame is the 45 degree angle we cut for the lot line.
Will keep posting as more progress is made.

One Week Till Move In Day...
I was just informed today my work on the 20th floor renovation in Milwaukee is almost complete and my client is moving in a week from tomorrow. Bittersweet as I've had a wonderful experience working for this client and will miss this project dearly, but at the same time I'm so happy for those who get to enjoy what was only in my head a year ago.
Just thought I'd share some quick pics I took last week when I was in town. Enjoy and I will try to get some more in the next few weeks after I'm back in the states!
