Wall Flats Revisited

Just wanted to pass along an image my client sent me of the completed WallFlats wall. It turned out beautifully and I hope to have some of my own photos of the space soon. Yes, that's a giant flat screen hanging on the wall. Enjoy!

Lake House-Almost Complete!

I am very happy to announce the owners of the Lake House project will be moving into their new and improved home this week!

To recap what we did, we basically kept as much of the existing structure and layout as we could to save the owners money. The kitchen, existing bathroom, and utility room all remained in their original spots. We used the dining space within the kitchen to make the kitchen larger and pushed their dining room into what was their living room.

We added a bedroom and a master suite making their home a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. They now also have a vaulted ceiling in their living room and much more storage than before.

The owners are very happy and looking forward to many happy years with their growing family in their new home!

WallFlats

While searching online late one night for a 3-Dimensional wall material that was easy to install AND affordable, I came across this website. The product, Wall Flats. Wall Flats are 3-Dimensional embossed tiles made from Bagasse. Evidently, this product is also decent for the environment in addition to the above requirements of ease of install and affordability.

Since discovering this product online, I'm seeing them installed everywhere.
This shot was from a showroom in Chicago. They used the product to wrap around an elevator enclosure just inside the storefront windows.

I also vaguely remember seeing a 3-Dimensional wall surface in the movie Old Dogs and it turns out it was indeed the Wall Flats "Seesaw" pattern. Go ahead, look it up!

The following photos are a pictures I took in the 20th floor penthouse space in Milwaukee yesterday. We decided to use the Wall Flats in the "Stitch" pattern to add extra texture and depth on the large TV wall in the living area. They will wrap the wall perpendicular so one will see them as they turn the corner from the front entry as well.

Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church

I realized I never posted about a project Malcolm Associates Inc completed last July in Winona Lake Indiana.

In the fall of 2008, we were contacted by Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church in Winona Lake, Indiana. They had a building on their property that used to be the Chicago Photography School they were using as their youth building and as a community outreach space. They needed a space that would be utilized as an extension of their ministry from the main building as well as continue to serve the youth and surrounding community. Our only real limitation as designers was budget-church projects are typically dependent on donations from the congregation.
We have had the privilege to work with this wonderful group and through much patience and understanding, in December of 2010, we celebrated the groundbreaking on their new renovation and addition. In July 2011, They celebrated their dedication and have been using the facility to help them better serve their community.

Drywall Changes Everything!

We have drywall now going up in the lake house project! I'm really happy to see how big the spaces look even with drywall. I've said it before and I will say it again, the different progress points of a project always change the feeling dramatically. Sometimes, it scares the client-especially if they've never experienced this before. This house is turning out really nicely and the clients are so excited about their new home. Enjoy!
